I seem to have found a fast, simple solution to smoothing skin and giving a "painterly" effect.

These imported photo magazines are really paying off.

Seems really neato. Did you make the just the skin smooth or the whole thing?

Duplicated the layer twice and used diffuse glow (can't remember the amounts) on one.

Inverted the other layer (which made a negative) and did a gaussian blur. Inverted again.

Played with the opacity on both layers for best effect.

pretty cool.
see thats what we need to start offering people. pics like that.

birdsnest - 09:29 - October 28, 2007

We didn't know how to do this before, now we do :D

Ok right on. What I would suggest though is erasing the eyes and mouth and nostrils, along with brows. That way everything looks soft except for what doesn't need to be. Try that out. It will give you a more realistic photo i think. I admire what you guys do. :)

I guess I can't make this into an action all the way, hmmm . . .

juancarlos - 01:08 - October 29, 2007

chica that makes a lot of sense.
were gonna have to use you as a freelance photoshopper one of these days.
we want to give our customers something different then what they are use to.

birdsnest - 07:02 - October 29, 2007

Haha it's only because I have had photoshop forever, and have taught myself what I know, if I didn't know I found a tutorial, and there are hundreds of tutorials out there for photoshop, if not thousands.

Chica - 08:48 - October 29, 2007

yeah but i'm lazy.
so your saying you wouldnt take 50 bucks to work on a couple of pics for us?
:(

birdsnest - 09:13 - October 29, 2007

Well I can't argue to that. LOL

Chica - 02:16 - October 29, 2007

thats what i'm saying.
all you would have to do is work on a few pics.
and we'd pay cash money.
:)

birdsnest - 09:38 - October 29, 2007

Here is just one example, of what you can do to skin, as in blurring it out, and unblurring the specific parts. Of course it involves a little bit more then that, but it provides the basics.

Untouched portrait:

Touched up one:

It was awful hard to find a portrait photo that wasn't photoshopped already lol. The shopped version here, is subtle, but makes an impact.

that looks really good.
i see what you mean.
were gonna have a meeting see if we can duplicate it.
do you want to be a member of this blog?
you can post a step by step process on how you did that?
yeah?

birdsnest - 07:00 - October 31, 2007

Sure, I am up to it.
